Once again I’m here. Sat at your feet. I’m frequently here. It’s one of my favourite places! Sometimes I see your whole foot in sandals! Jesus sandals! Yes, I know cliche but…..Sometimes I see two feet. But of late that has changed.
It’s said that we see all that we can cope with. You don’t impose yourself on us, but treat us with gentleness and kindness. You know how much or how little we can cope with. And with that care and compassion you reach us, your children.
So the other day I came to adoration. I knelt by you, in the blessed sacrament. You’re presence always there to hold and reassure. It was a delight being there. My soul lifted and was filled by your presence. But today your presence was buoyant, playful and fun. I was filled with a sensation that made we want to laugh out loud, but in quiet Adoration, in the silence of the church with others by me, this wasn’t the respect-filled behaviour that was expected of me! But this sensation didn’t go away. I felt like a child being tickled in church!! Then when I managed to take a breath and compose myself, something else happened! I realised I wasn’t sitting at the foot or feet of the Father at all. I was sitting next to His big toe! Yes, just the toe, the rest was covered with a white cloth/veil.
So, smiling I continued to pray my morning prayers. Time moved on into the mass. This progressed as usual, till we got to the transubstantiation. At this point, as the priest in persona of Christ Our Lord and held the host out and said those words.. ‘do this in remembrance of me’ something happened …
I got to see another toe!
Who says our God doesn’t have a sense of humour!!!
“I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to mere children” Lk10:21
