I came to find peace

I came to find peace today, sitting still at the break of day, podcast in my ears, Bible at hand. But instead of concentrating on the words in my ears and head, my mind wondered into other things…the to do list grew longer…

I came to find peace today, walking up a hill, a familiar path. But down in the valley, the loud hum of the plodding tractors took over, and there was no peace to be found!

I came to find peace today, standing in the mountain ridge. The breeze cooling, the view astounding; but the borrowed dog barked and pawed for attention. There was no peace to be found.

I came to find peace today. I stood on the mountain top. The sun scorched my face, I was sweating, agitated and hot!

In the end I stopped looking. In the end I let the world be. In the end I just walked purposefully, with one foot in front of me.

And as I let my seeking diminish. And I let the stress of the search go. The sounds settled, the sun cooled, and I heard it all.

The chatting of the warbler, the chirp of a blackcap or wren. The crackle of the cricket. The bleat of a lamb, the coo of a crow. I saw the butterflies flapping, a toad that crossed my path. The hum of the tractors still in the distance. The dog still barking….

But my heart and soul is filled with the gentleness. My hardened edges softened. Feeling at one with nature. Breathing gently…

I stopped search and I realised it found me. Aha! Peace at last! How can this be!
