Looking into the eyes of God

And I will lock eyes with the one who has ransomed me, the one who gave me joy for mourning.

And I will lock eyes with the one who has chosen me, the one who keeps me the one who sets my feet to dancing..”

Stefan Gretzinger- We Dance (Bethel Music)

They say our eyes are the windows to the soul, so how powerful and daring would it be to look directly into the eyes of the Lord.

He would see everything. We’d have to let Him. Our shame of sin, our hurt of Him, but also our love of him; even when it’s so often misguided!

As a child when we did something wrong and told a lie- we’d not be able to look at the questioning parent or teacher. There was also a strange childish wonder of how they knew we were lying. Even as adults, whilst or deception skills may be a little more refined to the world we live in, we will still hold our gaze away when we say something that isn’t quite right..

Often we hide ourselves and our eyes away when people talk to us. We look away to ease the discomfort. But their eyes can be searching and open, and at times intrusive. Perhaps we look away because we’re ashamed or scared of what they may perceive or find?

So to look into the eyes of God.. to lock eyes with our creator made flesh in Jesus Christ. To look directly into the eyes of our Father and let Him look back. We often think His gaze will be judgement and disappointment; but yet that’s not the God of Christianity! That’s the man-made image if God we all bear from our childhood. God doesn’t want us perfect, we’d be striving forever and never getting to the finish line worthy if that was the case..

No- He wants us right here and now as we are; warts and all. He wants our brokenness, our shame, our deceit, our chaos. He wants the messy me, the broken scattered and soppy me.. not the strong forthright militant woman. He wants me to find my strength and look into his eyes directly.

And when I do, He tells me it’s all alright. He tells me I’m loved and adored. I am his creature made in his image; I am His!.Yes, I may have done things to hurt him and those around me, and in time that will rectify; but right now, I am here right now.

Our eyes lock. I see all the love in His, He sees through mine with such an unimaginable healing love. Then I will close my eyes with trust and submission, and embrace Him and let Him lead me on..

“It’s nice to know, I’m not alone, I’ve found my home here in His arms”.
